Bridge Structures-Building a Wooden Truss Bridge

Husam Najm (Civil and Environmental Engineering)

Bridges are everywhere, but sometimes unseen.  In this seminar, students will learn about bridges – histories, performances, types, roles in national infrastructure, causes of failure, retrofit measures, and more. We will analyze, design, and build a wooden truss bridge and experimentally validate the analysis and design assumptions. Exercises of collecting bridge data using the NBI (National Bridge Inventory) data may also be included.  At the end of this seminar, students will have a greater understanding of the more complex bridges in the world.
