A Revolutionary Look at Gender-Based Violence in the Media

Judy Postmus (School of Social Work)

Media has the power to influence and shape our perspectives on an array of issues. In this seminar, students will learn media literacy skills to be able to critically analyze the ways in which the media portrays gender-based violence (GBV). Throughout the course, students will work together to critique movies (like Gone Girl and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), and TV shows (such as Girls, CSI, and Law and Order SVU), featuring key themes of such violence. At the end of the course, students will complete an activism project on campus that brings awareness and education about GBV to their peers.
